Evolving Careers in The Fields Of Finance, Marketing, HR And Operations

Embracing the future of MBA specializations, MBA graduates are not just stepping into traditional roles but are driving innovations, data analytics, and beyond. As the industries evolve, so do the opportunities for those ready to lead the charge. Keeping this thought in mind, sessions were organized for the newly inducted MBA Core Batch 2024-26, on 'The Evolving careers in the field of Finance, Marketing, Operations and HR' to give them insights on these different specializations, the roles they offer and their scope in current times. Each of these sessions were anchored by SCMHRD's very own alumni who are doing exceedingly well in their own careers in their respective field. Each of these sessions were followed by a question answer round where the students clarified their doubts regarding the fields from the industry experts. The idea behind conducting these sessions was to provide a holistic view to the new Batch so that they can choose their specialization in the coming days wisely.

The first session of the day was on "Evolving careers in Finance" conducted virtually by Mr. Deepesh Tiwary, SCMHRD Batch 2006-08, currently serving as the Managing Director of Monemetrics, expertized in private equity funding, debt restructuring, venture capital funding etc. Sir gave the students valuable insights on how the field of Finance stands in the current times and the significant transformations it has gone through over the past few decades. He talked about the shift from traditional banking to FinTech, the growing significance of trading, the distinction between finance and economics, the impact of data analysis in finance, and the current economic status of India. Sir also talked about the importance of Data Analytics in the current times which is disrupting the conventional banking models, and how important it has become in making sense of any financial narrative. He gave the students insights on the importance of academic performance, networking , hands on exposure and communication skills for a successful career in any field.

The session on Marketing was taken by Mr. Prathamesh Sawant, SCMHRD Batch 2013-2015, currently serving as the Senior Product Manager-Cash Management Services in IDFC FIRST Bank. Sir talked about the different verticals in Marketing including Sales, Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Brand Marketing. The gave valuable insights from his own experiences and how he always tries to learn new things and stay abreast of all latest trends of his field. He talked about how traditional marketing methods are being supplemented by digital marketing techniques like SEO, social media marketing, creating roles such as digital marketing specialists and social media managers. Data analytics has become crucial, giving rise to positions like marketing analysts and data scientists who use real-time data to inform strategies. Trends like personalization, influencer marketing are shaping the industry, offering diverse opportunities for those with various skills and hence careers. It was a very interactive session where students cleared all their doubts regarding the field of Marketing.

The third session on Human Resources was taken by Mr. Abhishek Gupta, SCMHRD Batch 2011-13, currently the Head of HR at ZebPay. Sir gave the students insights on the different roles under HR and the importance of the field in current times. He touched on topics like the integration of HR with strategy , data analytics tools enabling HR professionals to make data-driven decisions, streamline processes, and enhance employee engagement , emerging roles such as HR data analysts, talent acquisition specialists, and employee experience managers. The session was very interactive and students asked multiple questions to clear all the doubts they had about the field.

The last session of the day was conducted by Mr. Sujit Jilludimudi, SCMHRD Batch 2012-2014, currently the Aftermarket Materials Leader at Cummins Inc who explained the students the important aspects of the fields of operation, the current demands in the field and the different skills required to excel in the field. He also talked about the skills , tools , the strategies of scaling, producing maximum output etc. that gives a competitive edge as compared to others in the field. He told the students that the four ways to stay abreast in the field was knowing the technology, branding networking and the economics of sales.

All these sessions were very insightful. It gave us a holistic view of the various specializations and will help us in choosing one of them wisely.
