A Comprehensive Overview of Symbicare and Student Support Systems

The induction program for our new academic session was incredibly insightful, particularly the session on Symbicare and the various student support systems available at our institution. Here's a detailed rundown of what we learned about the Symbicare app, scholarships, healthcare services, mental health support, and sports and wellness programs.

Dr. Abhijit Deshpande introduced us to the Symbicare app, which is designed to help us manage our healthcare needs in real-time. The app makes it super easy to book appointments, get updates on health programs, and access medical records. They even showed us a QR code to download the app, so we could start using it right away.

There are several exciting scholarship opportunities available:

  • Merit Scholarships: Awarded to the top four students each semester.
  • IIT Student Scholarships: Five scholarships offering a 20% tuition fee waiver.
  • Sports Scholarships: Five scholarships for students excelling in sports.
  • Government Scholarships: Various scholarships under AICTE, UGC, and state government schemes are also available.

Dr. Ketki talked about the Symbiosis Centre of Healthcare (SCHC), which was established on June 14, 1997. The center offers services from ENT specialists and dentists to health education programs and blood donation drives. They focus on preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare, waste disposal management, and campus wellness advisory.

Dr. Girija Mahale introduced us to the Centre for Emotional Well-Being, which started in 2018. The center offers:

  • Counseling Sessions: Both individual and group sessions.
  • Workshops: Various workshops to raise awareness about mental health and build resilience.

Dr. Manoj Krishna told us about the HappierMe app, which is great for supporting our mental health. Theres also the Mental Health Ambassador Program, a one-year volunteer opportunity for students to become mental health representatives. We even get a certificate when we complete the program!

Career counseling services are available to help us make informed decisions about our future. If we need to take medical leave for mental health reasons, we must inform our campus counselor (SCEW). They also provided emergency helpline contacts for immediate assistance: +91 2061930000 and +91 2035087900.

Abhishree Rajput from the Department of Sports, Recreation & Wellness (DSRW) talked about various programs promoting physical fitness and well-being:

  • Sports Competitions: Includes intra-institute, inter-institute, and inter-university events.
  • Recreation and Wellness: Offers gym clearance, fitness tests, group activities, and fitness etiquette.
  • Academic Courses: Courses like Fitness for Life and Well for Life.
  • Key Events: Intra-Institute Sports event in July and the Fitness for Freedom Run from August 13-15.

The induction program gave us a comprehensive overview of the resources and support systems available to us. From the Symbicare app to mental health initiatives and sports programs, our institution is committed to our well-being and success. I highly recommend downloading the Symbicare app and taking advantage of these amazing resources to make the most of our time here.
