PPO Chronicles #55: Joseph Suganthan, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd.

Joseph Suganthan from the 2018-20 batch, pursuing Marketing, did his internship with Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited.

At his Internship, Joseph was assigned a project to strategize and develop a framework for sales strategy with Multi-Brand outlets for Peter England. During this stint, he got exposure to on-ground sales, B-2-B sales, and sales strategy. He took his time to understand the project assigned to him thoroughly and ensured that he clears out any doubts he had. According to him the first month of the internship mostly goes into understanding the project and understanding the work. The second month is where he worked on developing a strategy for sales at multi-brand outlets. Also, he had a very structured approach towards his internship where he not only had timely meetings with his mentor but also made sure that he could map his progress on the project. Preparing a Gantt chart to map his activities and following the basic corporate etiquette throughout is what made him stand out during his internship and help him get a PPO with ABFRL.

Joseph’s experience with the company was “simply unbelievable”, to quote, his mentor’s boss, the National Sales Head took over his mentorship and provided him with insights during the project. Being in the fashion industry, the company expected it’s employees to be fashionable and provided flexibility in working hours. Additionally, an open-door policy empowered Joseph to approach and learn from the leadership team of the company.

To the batch of 2019-21, Joseph advises getting to know in-depth about the assigned project and to further talk to different people to alleviate any assumptions about the project. Also, if they are able to bring structure to work and then approach it, it is always preferable. Finally, he wants the junior batch to carry their learning of advanced excel and other quantitative methods to solve problems and represent data which is always useful as the interns would be expected to present data multiple times during the internship duration. Joseph wishes “All the best” to the batch of 2019-20.

Many congratulations Joseph, and all the very best, from every one of us at SCMHRD.
