National Unity Day 2020 at SCMHRD

National Unity Day is celebrated on October 31st every year, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Deputy Prime Minister of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who is known as the “Unifier of India”.

SCMHRD celebrated National Unity Day on 31st October 2020. The event started with the welcome address by Dr. Pankaj Sharma, associate professor of finance, SCMHRD. He emphasized on the importance of unity and integrity of the nation with a beautiful poem in Hindi. 

Dr. Sunit Joshi was next invited to deliver the keynote address on the significance of National Unity Day. He threw light on how SCMHRD is a perfect example of unity with its students and staff members representing various states and cultural backgrounds of the country. Glorifying Vallabhbhai Patel’s contribution to the nation, Dr. Joshi elucidated how Patel unified the country by negotiating with more than 500 princely states. Quoting instances from Vallabhbhai Patel’s life, the speaker explained why he was called a man of Iron will.

A slew of delightful cultural performances followed the keynote address. Mr. Jitendra Shitre’s rendition of “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara” on pianica mesmerized the audience. Mr. Shitre’s performance was followed by Mr. Prithvish Banerjee’s mellifluous singing of Colonial Cousins’ “Krishna nee begane baro” which highlights the importance of unity among humans. Mr. Sanyam Jain, rendered a beautiful poem on the significance of unity. This was followed by two energetic dance performances by Mr. Chintan Dave and Ms. Meghana Bhalla.

The event came to an end with students and faculty members repeating the pledge of unity and integrity after Prof. Mr. Sanjay Bhattacharya. SCMHRD commits itself to following the path paved by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with an unabated enthusiasm and an unparalleled vision.
