National Education Day 2020 at SCMHRD

Every year since 2008, 11th November is celebrated as National Education Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of India. Azad, an educationist, and a freedom fighter established some of the finest educational institutions in India. 

SCMHRD celebrated National Education Day on 11th November 2020. The event started with the welcome address by Dr. Netra Neelam, Deputy Director, SCMHRD. She highlighted the importance of education, especially in these trying times of COVID-19. 

SCMHRD’s Institute Social Responsibility cell, Samatva, believes in equal consideration for all and strives to bring a change in people’s lives. Hence, senior members from the ISR club were invited next to deliver the keynote address on the significance of National Education Day and how Samatva under the aegis of SCMHRD has been playing an important part to address the needs of the less fortunate. 

The keynote speech started with an amazing video looking back on all the amazing endeavors that Team Samatva had taken up in the last academic year. The video was received with deafening applause from the audience. Post the video, Ms. Zeena M. Zacharia, Senior Member, Team Samatva welcomed the crowd to the event and started with a brief history of the committee. She talked about how Team Samatva has been leading the fight against inadequate educational resources for the most vulnerable in the society. 

A slew of delightful presentations about the work and impact of Team Samatva followed the keynote address. Mr. Pranjal Jain, Senior Member, Team Samatva, talked about Samatva’s evening tutorial program, INSPIRIT, which runs throughout the year and caters to more than 130 students from humble backgrounds near the campus. He accentuated how the program focuses on quality education and on inculcating moral values with special attention towards developing the children’s overall personality. Towards the end of the presentation, Ms. Pratiksha Tirkey, Senior Member, Team Samatva, reminisced about the time Samatva collaborated with Indigo Paints for their event – Indradhanush to revamp the learning space for the children at Marunji Zilla Parishad School, Pune. 

The event came to an end with Dr. Dipasha Sharma, Assistant Professor, Finance, and Dr. Gauri Joshi, Assistant Professor, Marketing, lauding Team Samatva for their unwavering spirit. They appreciated them for achieving the amazing feat of transforming the INSPIRIT evening classes into an Online mode. Dr. Netra Neelam delivered the vote of thanks and closed the event with a resolve to further strengthen SCMHRD’s efforts towards fostering a culture of giving back.
