Alumni Diaries with NITISH SHARMA- Batch of 2004-06(Marketing)

With an experience of 12 years in the corporate domain, Mr. Nitish Sharma has witnessed almost every ups & downs of the industry on his way to becoming the VP & Head of an organization. An alum of the 2006 batch of SCMHRD, Mr. Sharma is closely knit to his alma mater by his passion to hold interactive sessions with its current students. Having pursued Marketing as his majors & strategy as his minors, Mr. Sharma joined the Corporate Strategy and Business Development vertical of Aditya Birla Management Corporation Pvt. Ltd. Here he received a vast exposure in the Aluminum, BPO, Grocery & Retail industries. In a period spanning over 4 years here, he worked with CEOs of various business verticals & business development plans. He further evaluated M&A & JV opportunities through actively seeking targets & through leads provided by investment banks. He also led projects involving business consultants like McKinsey & BCG on assignments. His role primarily involved owning & executing project deliverables and evaluating value addition by consultants. Post this he stayed with ABG working as a manager in Madura Fashion & Lifestyle for over 2 years in Bangalore. Herein he undertook End to end project management across sales functions for all the premium brands (Van Heusen, Louis Philippe & Allen Solly).He also undertook expansion strategy for company owned stores including franchisee planning and Management. After over 6 years with Aditya Birla Group, Mr. Nitish Sharma moved to the media industry as a Senior Manager for Consumer Insights & Strategy in Star Sports. His task primarily involved developing business strategy for Star Sports. On a niche level this involved determining which sport to broadcast and within a sport which format to broadcast. He worked closely with business development team to determine best acquisition opportunities for business. He undertook development strategies to understand the growth of various global sports, how they were built & the role of the leagues. His work also involved interacting with key sports federations like the BCCI to mutually grow the respective sport in India. After two years with Star sports, Mr. Sharma joined Sony picture networks India Pvt. Ltd. As an AVP & Head. He led & developed the consumer strategy through qualitative & quantitative research. He also developed on air promotion strategy to maximize reach of promos ensuring smooth running of daily channel operations including scheduling, break pattern & segment structures. As of April 2016 he is working as the head for Consumer strategy & Insights for Sony SAB as well as PAL. An avid learner of consumer behavior and psychology Mr. Sharma strives for excellence in Consumer Insights & Business Strategy. He describes his time at SCMHRD as a “Boot camp” and loves using his bike to go on solo trips across various parts of the country.
